Writing in Smash Hits, Bev Hillier described Y'all Know How to Love Me as a "bang-up anthology" that was "relaxing, pleasant, like shooting fish in a barrel listening and annihilation similar that yous tin can think of". Hillier went on to depict Hyman'south voice every bit "astonishing and perfectly used".[2]
According to the Allmusic review by Jose F. Promis, "The album never truly realized its full potential, but does include the song that would become one of Hyman'southward signature tunes, "You Know How to Love Me."[1] The song was never a blockbuster hit, but has grown into a classic, covered by artists such every bit Lisa Stansfield and Robin S". The album reached number x on the R&B charts in 1980.[3] The single, "You Know How to Beloved Me" was a club smash reaching number half-dozen on the dance charts.[4]
